Colleges and Universities

One of the goals in Connecticut is to encourage climate change actions on college and university campuses since these institutions are often fertile grounds for progressive environmental values and leadership. Several of Connecticut's colleges and universities have already commenced actions to address climate change. Join them and become a leader on climate change issues both within Connecticut and in the northeast region and send us your success stories.

  • JOIN THE CT GREEN CAMPUS LISTSERVE
Share your questions and successes with other campuses in the state and learn about workshops and programs to green your campus by participating in the CT Green Campus Exchange .
  • DETERMINE YOUR SCHOOL'S GREENHOUSE GAS FOOTPRINT
Eastern Connecticut State University has signed a partnership with Clean Air - Cool Planet to develop a greenhouse gas inventory for their campus. Several other institutions in the state are also close to signing partnerships as well. To learn more about how Clean Air - Cool Planet can help your college or university develop a greenhouse gas inventory, please visit  Clean Air - Cool Planet Campuses for Climate Action
  • IMPLEMENT ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES
Studies show that energy efficiency measures pay for themselves quickly, save schools money in the long run and result in lower emission levels of greenhouse gases as well as other air pollutants. Both the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) have tools and resources such as the ENERGY STAR program to help schools implement and measure the effectiveness of energy efficiency measures. To learn more about these resources, please visit Energy Star for Higher Education .
  • SUPPORT CLEAN ENERGY
Connecticut College was the first school in the state to purchase renewable energy to make up a portion of its total electricity consumption. Yale University has installed a fuel cell on its campus. Many others CT campuses are also taking action.
  • SHARE YOUR SUCCESSES, BE RECOGNIZED
Tell us what your college or university is doing to address climate change, submit a nomination for a Climate Change Leadership Award.
