CT Comprehensive Energy Strategy

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is in the process of developing a comprehensive energy strategy to assess Connecticut’s energy needs, and to provide long term guidance on how to meet the goals of multiple State plans including: the integrated resource plan, conservation and load management, the climate change action plan, and the renewable energy plan. A public information meeting will be held on May 23 (see calendar for details).

Public Act 11-80 requires DEEP to prepare a comprehensive energy plan by July 1, 2012. The comprehensive energy strategy (CES) will contain actions that can be taken to provide near-term benefits and establish a foundation upon which to build a sustainable energy future to achieve the long-term goals. The major topics of the CES are:

Transportation
Buildings
Industry
Electricity
Cross-cutting issues (e.g., natural gas)

Draft Connecticut Climate Preparedness Plan

The draft Connecticut Climate Preparedness Plan was developed with input from a subcommittee made up of federal, state and local officials, academics, NGOs and legislators. The draft plan outlines initial strategies to help address the potential effects of climate change described in the 2010 report Impacts of Climate Change on Connecticut Agriculture, Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Public Health.
