    Little People, Big Changes

Founded by two boys when they were eight years old, “Little People Big Changes” have signed up more than 120 homes in Wilton for clean energy and launched a “no idling” campaign to reduce harmful air emissions from cars, trucks and buses. They have also conducted presentations for schools, town officials, and local community groups on clean energy and global warming.

City of Bridgeport and Bridgeport Regional Business Council

Mayor Bill Finch of Bridgeport has shown exceptional leadership on sustainability. The Mayor’s 2008 Executive Order on Sustainability led to the creation of a participatory public-private partnership between the City of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council to develop a comprehensive sustainability plan, BGreen 2020.

Cornwall Energy Task Force

Cornwall. Thanks to the efforts of the town’s Energy Task Force, the Town of Cornwall has the highest proportion of clean energy use of any town in CT and one of the highest on the east coast—with 33% of households, and over 6% of all users (including residential, commercial, and municipal buildings), signed up for the CTCleanEnergyOptions program.

City of Stamford

Stamford has committed to using 20% clean energy by 2010 and to reducing its greenhouse gases (GHGs) by 20% by 2018. The city is a member of Cities for Climate Protection and signed on to the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Since 1998, the city has reduced energy use by over 11million kilowatt-hours annually through energy efficiency projects in city buildings, saving almost $1.3 million a year.

Ridgefield Action Committee for the Environment

The Ridgefield Action Committee has led the effort to have this town commit to supporting 20% clean energy by 2010, organized clean energy sign-ups in six surrounding towns, developed a campaign that cut idling by 10%, and helped schools cut energy use by 12%. The committee also organized a day-long retreat on environmental sustainability attended by 70 Ridgefield town leaders.

The Town of Suffield

The Town of Suffield has helped fight Climate Change by working to preserve forest and agricultural lands, which help sequester carbon dioxide. The Town’s 10-year goal is to preserve 55% of residential-zoned land (50% of the town). Since 2001 the Town has preserved over 700 acres.
